CLYBOURNE PARK, written by Bruce Norris and directed by Carole MacCartee at Red Barn Theatre, raises the bar on politically incorrect wit.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning dialogue wades deeply into the morass of race, mental challenges, handicapped issues and family and community dynamics, trading each groan for a laugh.  Audiences gasp before bursting in laughter at the rapid fire references.

The format of the show has each actor playing two roles – one in each scene set 50 years apart (1959 and the present).  The action follows two separate sales of the same house that trigger different perspectives on white flight and gentrification.

J. Kelly Nestruck called it “A nasty and brilliant comedy” in the Globe and Mail.

The squabbles and attempts to backpeddle from gaffs have the cast delivering lines like a song sung in rounds.

The Tony Award winning play resonates and also leaves the audience wondering “What the devil is the capitol of Morroco.”

Director Carole MacCartee deftly molds the actors — Dave Bootle, Nicole Nurenberg, Amber McDonald Good, Chris Tittel, Tish Williams, Mook J and Matt Hollis Hulsey.
