The eagerly anticipated July 4th Picnic benefiting VNA/Hospice is almost upon us. Established in 1984 with the founding of the Association, this holiday picnic continues to thrive as its premiere fundraising event. Funds raised are dedicated to provide home healthcare and hospice services in the Florida Keys.

Honorary Chairs for the 2013 Fourth of July Picnic are Dr. Roger and Mrs. Mary Ann Westerlund. The couple, a retired physician and retired nurse, is being recognized for their longstanding loyalty and participation in this annual event. Notes Jody Gross, President and CEO of VNA/Hospice, “The Westerlunds have a lengthy history of attendance at our Independence Day fundraiser. This couple has been steadfast in their support:  always first to RSVP and to donate to the silent auction…they are even first on the dance floor! It gives me great pleasure to distinguish them as Honorary Chairs of this year’s July 4th Picnic.”

The fun and merriment begin at 5pm on Thursday, July 4th, with a traditional cookout buffet included in the ticket price of $ 25 (adults) and $ 10 (children ages 4-12).  A no-meal ticket is $ 10, and Best Seats on the Beach admission of $ 125 provides exclusive beachfront seats, dinner buffet with personal wait staff, and cash bar. Watermelon, popcorn and Pepsi products are complimentary with all admissions. The children’s activity area features games, races and recreation, and the day is highlighted with live music, an impressive silent auction and Navy color guard parade.  The festivities conclude at 9 pm, in time to view the spectacular fireworks show, courtesy of Rotary Club of Key West.
