Alfred "Uganda" Roberts Joins Barry Cuda
Legendary New Orleans conga player Alfred “Uganda” Roberts joins pianist Barry Cuda and his band this weekend and will be performing three different gigs in various venues. “Uganda” was born and grew up in the Treme neighborhood and first came to the public’s attention as Professor Longhair’s accompanist in the 70’s. He has recorded, performed, and toured with a who’s who of New Orleans greats including, Dr. John, The Meters, Allen Toussaint, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Snooks Eaglin, Irma Thomas and many more. A seasoned veteran at 70, he is a mainstay on the fertile New Orleans music scene, appears at Jazz Fest regularly, and plays himself on the television series “Treme”.
The band will be playing a mix of Caribbean, New Orleans and Southern Rhythm and Blues. Call it rock and roll’s grandparents- old school acoustic roots music from the 1880’s thru the 1940’s.
