The 7th Annual Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle
Key West, Florida Keys – The most magical night of summer unfolds under a full moon as Centennial Bank presents the Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle—Saturday, June 22, from 5 to 11 p.m at the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden, 5210 College Road on Stock Island.
Now in its 7th year, Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle was created to celebrate the Keys creative community—to give artists a voice and platform to share the power of their visions.
Arriving merry-makers will be greeted by faery-winged sprites, sprinkled with rose petals and provided a glass of champagne or non-alcoholic bubbling beverage. This year’s Spectacle includes a Grand Dream Mural Project, a Dream Poetry wall, Fringe Theatre Shakespeare drama, aerial artistry, fire dancing, ballet, and a roster of Key West’s best musicians, singers, sculptors, painters, poets, and storytellers. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event.
Everyone attending is invited to be a co-creator at this colorful and spontaneous festivity–a wonderland of costumed revelers, interactive art projects, and multiple stages featuring artists of local and national renown. Attire ranges from Key West cool to Midsummer’s Magical, with a King and Queen of Midsummer’s Night chosen from among the best costumed. Festival food includes offerings by Help Yourself; Centennial Bank dogs & burgers; Italian ices and more, as well as full bars. Admission is $15 for adults; children under the age of 12—and all Centennial Bank customers who present their Centennial Bank debit card—are admitted free.
Created and produced by arts and community development advocate Michael Shields and co-produced by the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden, Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle benefits the Forest and Garden. “Midsummer’s Night celebrates the summer solstice,” said Shields. “It’s a time when the veil between this world and the next is thin, and powerful forces are abroad. On Midsummer’s, legends hold that one can gain the powers of a bard – or on the downside, end up utterly mad, demented, or whisked away by spirit faeries. Romances flourish, affairs are begun, mystery and mischief abound. It all begins with a dream. Come watch the stars or share your own.”
