Monroe County Take Stock In Children Class of 2014

Take Stock in Children, a college scholarship program for high-performing, low-income students, is now accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year. Motivated students, grades 7 – 10, with the desire and potential to attend college or learn a trade should apply.

“This is an outstanding program that offers more than a college scholarship to qualified candidates. Our students are matched with a volunteer mentor while in middle and high school, attend college readiness workshops and college campus tours, and learn how to be successful in college,” explains TSIC program coordinator Chuck Licis.

TSIC students are expected to earn As and Bs (but no less than Cs) during each grading period, maintain good attendance and behavior, attend college-readiness workshops, and meet weekly with their mentor. Upon successful completion of the TSIC program, high school graduates receive a college scholarship covering 120 credit hours of tuition and fees.

“Our TSIC graduates are pursuing their dreams, attending the Florida college or university of their choice, enabling them to earn a college degree,” said Licis, “We are helping our students break the cycle of poverty through education.”

Applications and information regarding the TSIC program are available by contacting Chuck Licis, 305-293-1546 or [email protected].

TSIC scholarship applications for the current year are due Friday, September 12, 2014. Return completed applications to the front office of each middle or high school or mail to Chuck Licis, Take Stock in Children, 241 Trumbo Road, Key West, FL 33040.
