Monroe County School District Leadership Changes Announced
The Monroe County School District announces final changes in administrative leadership positions for the 2013-2014 school year.
On June 25, 2013, the School Board was presented with and approved the recommendations for administrative personnel for the 2013-2014 school year. Due to the selection of Ms. Lisa Hayes-Taylor as Principal at Plantation Key School and Mr. Brett Unke as Principal at Stanley Switlik Elementary School, creating vacancies within the previously approved recommendations, the following interim appointments are effective Monday, August 5, 2013. “Each of these positions is being filled by current district personnel who have come forward to fill leadership voids as we prepare for the soon to open 2013-14 school year and I am grateful that we have such talent available” says Superintendent Mark T. Porter, “I know they will each do an outstanding job on behalf of our students and families in the coming school year.”
These interim appointments will be for the 2013-2014 school year only, with a full posting/advertising interview and selection process to follow in the spring of 2014. The interim candidates appointed for the 2013-2014 school year are as follows:
Mr. Steve Vinson, will move to the position of Interim Assistant Principal at Horace O’Bryant School. This will replace the elementary experience on the HOB leadership team lost when Mr. Unke moved to the Principal position at Switlik School.
Ms. Christina McPherson, currently Director of Accountability & Assessment will add the role of Interim Principal at Poinciana Elementary School. Ms. McPherson is well qualified and prepared to address the student achievement needs at Poinciana.
Ms. Kristy Bedell, previously assigned as Teacher Leader at Plantation Key School will move to the position of Interim Assistant Principal at Coral Shores High School.
In addition, Mr. Randy Fabal has been selected and will be recommended to the School Board for the position of Transportation Supervisor, replacing Ms. Kayleen Watts. Mr. Fabal formerly served in this capacity from 2002-2004. He is currently a Mathematics Teacher at Key West High School.
