Monroe County School District 2013-2014 Advanced Placement & ACT Scores Released
The Monroe County School District is pleased to announce the release of the 2013-2014 Advanced Placement Scores. The Advanced Placement program provides students with rigorous coursework which aligns with college-level standards. Students participate in an international assessment to determine mastery of college-level course work. Students achieving a score of three or higher are eligible to receive college credit for the course.
Monroe County High Schools increased the level of participation in 2013-2014 with an impressive 740 students participating in the advanced course work; this is a 13 percent increase from 2013 and a 43 percent increase from 2010. 1377 tests were administered district wide. This is an increase of 17 percent from 2013 and 48 percent from 2010.
The Advanced Placement Program offered by The College Board at Monroe County’s four high schools provide students the opportunity to participate in the Advanced Placement experience which correlates with positive college or post-secondary outcomes. 41 percent of the students district wide achieved a three or higher. While this is a slight decrease from the previous year of 44 percent, the total number of students receiving a score of three or higher increased by eight percent from 2013 and 27 percent from 2010. In addition, 33.3 percent of the district’s seniors scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam when compared to 31.4 percent in 2013.
- Coral Shores High School led the district with an increase in the number of students participating by 20 percent and increased the number of tests administered by 41 percent.
- Marathon High School’s AP Psychology class had 93 percent of students who scored a three or higher.
- Key West High School increased the number of seniors who received a three or higher at least once on an AP exam at one point while in high school by 4.1 percent to 33 percent.
In addition, the Monroe County School District is pleased to announce the release of the 2013-2014 ACT scores. The ACT consists of four curriculum-based tests and measures the post-secondary readiness skills of high school students and is a common evaluation tool for college placement and admission. The Monroe County School District tested 311 students in 2013-2014.
Monroe County students scored above the state average in all five measured areas and showed an increase in performance in all areas as compared to 2012-2013 results. The ACT has also established a college readiness benchmark score for specific college courses. The Monroe County School District percent of ACT-tested students ready for college-level coursework outperformed the state in all areas. The percentage of students demonstrating college readiness increased in College English Composition (Two percent), College Social Science (Eight percent), College Biology (Three percent), and the number of students proficient in all four areas (Three percent).
