Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden Joins Smithsonian Magazine's Ninth Annual Museum Day Live!
Free Admission for All Participants Presenting a ‘Museum Day Live!’ Ticket on September 28, 2013
Date coincides with Birdfest 2013 special events.
Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden will open its gates free of charge on Saturday September 28, 2013, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s ninth annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution.
Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums – including botanical gardens and zoos – across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year’s event expects record-high participation.
“The Garden’s status as a ‘living museum’ offers not just our 77 year history, but our continued efforts to preserve, protect and teach the importance of native flora and fauna of the region”, noted Misha McRae, Executive Director. “These values emulate the Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the sharing of knowledge available to everyone.”
As a bonus, Museum Day coincides with the Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival 2013 with special tours and presentations scheduled throughout the day. Those not registered for Birdfest programming can independently enjoy viewing the autumn migration of birds through the Forest and the flurry of butterflies.
The Museum Day Live! ticket will be available to download beginning in August at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
