The goal of the International Coastal Cleanup is to remove trash and debris from the world’s beaches and waterways, identify the sources of that debris, and change the behaviors that allow it to reach the ocean in the first place.

During this annual September event volunteers from countries across the global contribute their time to removing marine debris ranging from cigarette butts to major appliances. Since all waterways are connected volunteers don’t just work along ocean beaches but along lakes, streams, and rivers, too.

Marine debris is not just ugly it’s dangerous!
