A forum on Flood Insurance: Options and Solutions, organized by the Lower Keys League of Women Voters, will be held on Saturday, March 22 from 10 a.m. until noon at Harvey Government Center at the Old Truman School.

“Quickly rising flood insurance rates affect everyone in the Keys,” said  LWV chapter President Joan Wallin. “Whether you are a property owner, potential buyer, or renter working in the service sector, the cost of flood insurance threatens to make living in the Florida Keys cost prohibitive.  We will hear about current law, possible legislative solutions, efforts by Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe (FIRM) to solve the problem and the impact on local real estate transactions and the economy,” she said.

Participants in the forum will be: US Congressman Joe Garcia; Monroe County Commissioner Heather Carruthers, who is FIRM president and co-founder: FIRM Executive Director Chic Wagner; and Michael Larson, past president of the Key West Realtors Association. League Vice President Linda Grist Cunningham will moderate.

The forum is free and open to the public. For additional information about the program or the organization, please contact League Treasurer Sandra Bergin at (305) 872-0365.
