Justin tells you about his work:
“The two images below are both done in Chalk Pastel on paper, roughly 14 X 19. They are part of a recent series I’ve begun which is unofficially dubbed “Face Melts”. They are free-formed surrealistic drawings that influence themselves as I’m making them. In other words, I don’t map the whole thing out in advance, I just start drawing letting it all just flow into uncertainty.”
“These next two are large Oil paintings. They are unfinsihed paintings, part of an unfinished series titled “Figurative Beauty”. The one titled “What I loved about Sundays” is 4.5 X 5 foot. The other, “A Lazy Lobster Kind of Day” is 4.5 X 3 foot. These two paintings were created in a cold attic studio recalling beautiful moments of past love that had left me astray.”
“This piece is a Poster inspired by old 60’s rock posters. I did this for fun for Key West’s local street musician and character, Kenyatta. The original was done with pen and color pencils. He currently sells them while performing on Duval Street at night, and will autograph one for you as well. It is an 11 X 17 Poster.”
“The next two are Oil paintings. “Pooch” is a painting I did for my Mom when my childhood dog passed two summers ago. It’s 3.5 X 2.5 foot. “Darota Jerrod and Julius” is a painting I did for my freinds that just had a baby in January. It’s 22 X 32 inches. These are personal examples of the type of work I do for commissions in Oils.”
“Aquatic Fun” and “Bird Man” are two pastel drawings I did for commission. People email me photos. I print the photo, do a drawing or painting (their preference) from the photo and then mail them the finished work.”
“Willie Live” is an example of what I do while I’m set up on the streets. I’ve traveled all over the country setting up my stand and drawing anyone willing to sit in my chair. I spend winters set up in warm and beautiful Key West. I can draw one in as quick as 20 minutes. This one took 40 – 50 minutes. It’s a portrait of my brother.”
