Exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2014 will be conducted at Naval Air Station Key West and naval bases and installations throughout the continental U.S. Feb. 18 – 28.

This annual exercise is designed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy Security Forces to respond to threats to installations and units. Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2014 is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly-scheduled exercise.

Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions to normal base and station operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases. Truman Annex, in particular, will see increased security activities to include activation of the loudspeaker system used in emergencies, which may be heard by nearby residents. The exercise may also cause delays in base access at all gates.

“When you access the base during this time, remember, you must always have your proper ID and vehicle documents with you,” said Naval Air Station Key West Commanding Officer Capt. Steve McAlearney. “Be patient, plan ahead if you need access to the base, and most of all, follow all the orders of our security forces.”
