EvenFlo Recalls Children’s Car Seats; Many Local Families Affected
EvenFlo has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 1.3 million children’s car seats. Many of the seats affected by this recall were purchased by the state of Florida and distributed in Monroe County as part of the Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition’s child safety program.
The recall specifically addresses EvenFlo’s convertible and harnessed buckle models manufactured in the last three years. They are being recalled due to a faulty buckle. If certain liquids or foods contaminate the buckle, it may become difficult to unlatch. The issue does not affect the crashworthiness of the seat in the event of a collision and EvenFlo has received no reports of injury to a child as a result of using this buckle. However, replacement of the buckle is still strongly recommended.
If they did not already receive one from the manufacturer, parents or caregivers are encouraged to request a free buckle replacement kit for their child’s seat by contacting EvenFlo at 1-800- 490-7591. For specific questions or local assistance with installing the new buckle, parents may call the Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition at 305-293-8424. One of our certified car seat technicians will be able to assist parents with correcting the seat.
A complete list of recalled models is available through www.buckle.evenflo.com, however, the Titan 65, Maestro and SecureKid models are those that have been widely distributed locally through the Coalition’s state-funded car seat installation and inspection events. “Over 200 children in our community may be travelling in these recalled car seats. While EvenFlo is stating the seats are safe in a collision; if they issued this recall, then it is still a serious concern and is important for parents to take the steps to replace the buckle,” said Program Coordinator Leah Stockton. “We want to let everyone know if you need guidance in how to replace the buckle and re-install your child’s seat, you may call our office and we would be glad to help.”
