Congressman Joe Garcia Calls On the Florida Legislature to Reconsider Insurance Commissioner’s Responsibilities

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Garcia urges the Florida Legislature to reconsider their decision to strip Florida’s Insurance Commissioner of the power to review health insurance premiums.

In a letter sent Thursday to the Florida House Speaker, Will Weatherford, and Florida Senate President, Don Gaetz, Garcia wrote, “While you do not support the Affordable Care Act, you have the responsibility to protect the interests of Floridians and ensure that they have access to affordable health care. I respectfully urge you to put politics aside and put Florida first by reinstituting the authority of the Florida Insurance Commissioner to review health insurance rates. If you do not do so, it will be Floridians who will pay the price.”
