Carey Winfrey, creator of a unique documentary film about Key West, is the next lecturer in this season’s Friends of the Key West Library lecture series—Monday, January 20, 6:00 p.m., Studios of Key West, 600 White Street.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Following his work at the magazines Time and People, as well as The New York Times, Winfrey was editor-in-chief of the magazine Smithsonian for ten years, retiring from that position in 2011.  He then launched production of the film Writers on Bicycles: Literary Key West, a vision of the city that emerges through interviews with more than 30 writers who have lived and worked in Key West.  Assisted by his wife Jane and a grant from the Anne McKee Artists Fund of the Florida Keys, Winfrey completed a final version of the film in 2013.  He will show and discuss the film.

The Friends of the Key West Library weekly lecture series is free and open to the public.  Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.  This year’s series runs for ten consecutive Mondays, ending on March 17.  Next lecturer is novelist Lee Smith, January 27.  FOL’s newsletter, including a list of future lecturers, is located at http://friendsofthekeywestlibrary.org.
