A Challenge to Both Mr. Garcia and Mr. Curbelo…

To the Editor,

[Response to “Garcia, Curbelo Trade Insults Again” Key West Citizen, September 30, 2014 p1a]

Conspiracy of silence

At Monday’s Hometown pac political forum at FKCC Key West Citizen publisher and panelist Mr. Paul Clarin made the statement about halfway through the rehashed candidate questions that: “This is like Groundhog Day” (the movie). Ironically, Phil (the protagonist in the movie) was a weatherman caught in a time loop who gets to keep repeating the same sequence of events on Groundhog Day over and over – known only to him. Phil may represent the new American Dream – becoming an “insider.”

I  submitted a comment & question to Hometown pac (copying both Congressional candidates Mr. Garcia & Mr. Curbelo) for the Hometown pac debate: “In a recent  debate both of you expressed concern over high home insurance rates and climate change. Many believe that “global warming is a hoax” but man made climate change is real. I am referring to the ongoing Geo-engineering projects that purport to modify our weather and promulgate profits in the weather futures and options industry. Question: “If weather is being artificially manipulated, what could be the impact on insurance rates for the home owning citizens (not business owners) of Monroe County.”

Sad to say, there were no questions to Mr. Garcia or Mr. Curbelo about either climate change or high homeowner insurance rates – two of the most pressing issues for us here in the Keys. The only mention was Mr. Garcia saying that the “Koch brothers (allegedly backing Mr. Curbelo) don’t believe in global warming.” Regarding the “conspiracy of silence” over local Geo-engineering projects occurring here and elsewhere, I would have to agree with a recent Key West Blue Paper contributor that most Florida Keys corporate media (and Hometown pac?) has been co-opted by those “invested” in maintaining the status quo – like in the Truman Show – another illuminating comedy about engineered societies.

The Citizen newspaper ran an earlier editorial about cleaning up the “ETHICS SWAMP” at Citizen’s insurance. It appears that “swamp” is also full of  kleptocratic quislings in our own community who work to suppress the truth from an unsuspecting public on this and other important issues. How high up the political chain does the conspiracy of silence among insiders go? As above, so below? And why are our supposed “environmental coalitions” not speaking out? Office holders that continue to support the attempted suppression of the truth will put themselves on the wrong side of history.

Congressman Garcia said Monday: “Politics is broken because we scare people.” “When we are fearful of the future and of confronting the facts….” [it’s not a good thing]. I challenge both Mr. Garcia and Mr. Curbelo to address the facts surrounding the issues of geo-engineering & homeowner’s insurance – and their consequences to our health and financial well-being. Let’s have a real debate and provide the ultimate winner some political capital for speaking truth to power. “Inspiring” powerful corporations to help us protect and renew our Pandora – like string of beautiful islands and coral reefs is one of our challenges. Say goodbye, Dubai. Florida’s “Green Keys” is a comin.

One can only hope that the Northernmost Territories will set things right and push for the truth in the upcoming Congressional debate on Wednesday (7pm), October 8 at the Murray Nelson Government and Cultural Center in Key Largo. Long live the Conch Republic!
