A Cemetery Stroll honoring Black History Month is planned for Saturday, February 22. During the stroll, groups of visitors will be escorted to gravesites where interpreters will tell the stories of the deceased in brief monologues.

Gravesites to be visited include: George Adderley, Willie Ward, Roosevelt Sands, Sr., Frank Adams, Nelson English, Thomas Romer, Ellen Welters Sanchez, Sandy Cornish, and the U.S. Battleship Maine Memorial.

The groups will depart from the main cemetery entrance every 20 minutes beginning at 9 a.m. The strolls will last approximately 90 minutes. This is a terrific opportunity to learn first-hand about many of the African American people who contributed to Key West’s history.

Space is limited to 30 people per group and pre-registration is required. To register, call 305-304-1453. A donation of $ 10 (cash or check) per person to the Historic Florida Keys Foundation is recommended. This event is sponsored by the City of Key West, and the Historic Florida Keys Foundation. The last Cemetery Stroll of the season will take place on Saturday, March 22.
