Love Lane Gang Plays the Parrot: 9pm Turkey Day Come on Down!!!

Tuck the turkey and pumpkin pie away, collect Gramps and the kids, and come on down to The Green Parrot for a rollicking Thanksgiving night party with the Love Lane Gang.

The holiday show starts at 9pm, with  Gang  regulars holding forth: front man  singer -songwriter, Jerrod Isaman, playing guitar, accordion, harmonica, kazoo and piano; Steve Gibson on that magical mandolin, Stephen LaPierre  with his sturdy stand up bass,  Rob Cook, the Washboard Tie Guy; and the sultry voice of Brielle Fensenfeld.  Toss in some special guests like Jason Shore, Nashville banjo player par excellence, street singer Steve Clark with his barrel-chested voice and ukulele, along with a few other surprises, and you’ve got a party!

How can you not be happy this Thanksgiving, with a bellyful, of turkey dinner, followed by a cocktail of ragtime, skiffle and jug band music?   How long since you’ve heard the silly 1920’s “Singing in the Bathtub” or “The Sheilk of Araby? “ How about Tom Waits’ “Chocolate Jesus” done Gypsy jazz style,  or the Rolling Stone’s “Dead Flowers” done as down home country as can be?

Add into the mix some Kinks,  Beatles, White Stripes, Woody Guthrie, old school country, rockabilly, and surf music ( with Isaman twanging a reverb-soaked electric guitar), and then Fensenfeld belting out Dolly Parton’s, “Jolene,”  or Sweet Emma’s  “You Can’t Have None of my Jelly Roll!”. There’s just about everything for just about everybody.

Local music critics, as well as longtime and instant fans, agree: this gang of four – or five, six, or seven – are in this for the sheer pleasure of making music together. They have as much fun playing, as does everyone listening, dancing, and singing along.

“Jerrod is a risk taker; he’ll play anything,” said Patrick Stecher, the Duval Street wire sculpture artist and ukulele player. Thanks to the decades of experience behind LaPierre and Gibson, along with the youthful vitality of Cook (currently a contestant in America’s Got Talent), Isaman can be fearless as he leads the Gang through their repertoire, tossing the melody line from mandolin to guitar to banjo to accordion, piano or kazoo, confident that whoever takes a turn will provide engaging, exciting entertainment. Meanwhile, the bass and percussion creatively ground the music, offering up solo exclamation marks along the way. Together, the Gang consistently creates a pleasurable, ever-changing, harmonic and energizing ruckus.

So put away those leftovers, turn off the games, and get your family over to The Parrot starting at 9 PM. Your kids, their parents, and your parents will be stomping and dancing all night long and into the wee hours.

You can also hear the Gang at the Parrot  9PM-midnight  this Thursday (Nov 20^th)  at McConnell’s Pub (8-12 PM) Thanksgiving Eve and also every Friday night at Salute’s On The Beach, every Sunday night  (5-8 PM) and at Blue Heaven every Tuesday (day and night).

The Gang will also be special guests at the Survivors Reunion Concert this Saturday, a benefit for Womankind, at Blue Heaven, 6:30- 10 pm.
