Songwriters are gathering to take Key West by storm. Strong winds of lyrical magic are beginning to be heard with a tribute this Sunday for legendary songwriter, Freddy Powers. Powers has written some of Merle Haggard’s biggest hits and is most known for his songs: You’ve got a friend in California, Natural High and I always get lucky with you. Powers has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and despite his battle, will be visiting the Keys for the first time. The eye of the storm is set to hit The Hogfish Bar and Grill, Sunday, Sept. 15th at 2pm and is expected to last until 10pm for a full day of songwriter performances with locals Paul Cotton, Howard Livingston and Rusty Lemmon. Other transient songwriters steering this storm include: Scotty Emrick, Red Lane, Danny Griego, Bo Roberts, Chris Newbury, Cass Hunter, and Freebo as well a few surprise guest appearances. Kacey Jones and Don McNatt will be tracking the storm from Kelly’s Grille, The Rose Tattoo and Solo’s Bistro on Saturday and Sunday in downtown Key West. A tropical wave is even expected to reach Looe Key Tiki Bar with special appearances by Bo Roberts and Chris Newbury hosted by CW Colt on Monday September 16th.
