Perkins and Haskins to Present New Works of Adventure Fiction and Fact this Saturday
Two intrepid Key West characters will present newly released works of fiction and fact at a joint book signing event, Saturday, July 27, 4-6 pm at Smokin’ Tuna Saloon, 4 Charles St, in Old Town Key West.
Reef Perkins will debut his much-anticipated memoir, Sex, Salvage & Secrets. Published by Absolutely Amazing eBooks in both digital and print versions, SS&S is a rapid-fire, wickedly entertaining narrative that carries the reader shotgun along with the author as he describes an uncommon life as a Vietnam combat veteran, experimental diver, smuggler, prisoner and Key West salvage captain. Perkins says that he is grateful to the Anne McKee Artists Fund of the Florida Keys for a grant that provided partial funding for his book, and to his wife Roberta, “without whom I would still be scribbling on bar napkins.”
Michael Haskins will be dishing up copies of the recently released To Beat the Devil, #7 in his smokin’ hot Mad Mick Murphy Key West mystery series. With a seven-week stint on Kindle’s top 100 mystery/thriller list, Haskins’ ricochet-sharp tropical crime-caper is populated with familiar Key West characters and locales. Fictional Mad Mick Murphy has achieved such renown over the years that his legend has been immortalized in a ballad by Joey Philpott. No such odes, however, are known to have been written about Haskins himself. Yet.
Haskins, Perkins and Smokin’ Tuna proprietor Charlie Bauer invite everyone to arrive early and enjoy complimentary ice cold Budweiser, fritters and wings while they last. The authors will sign their new releases, and for those who missed the prequel to To Beat the Devil, Haskins will have copies of Stairway to the Bottom on hand as well.
