MORE FROM FEATURED ARTIST RICHARD WATHERWAX
BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE !
Arnaud and Naja were kind enough to let me display more photos that will be in my exhibit that opens tomorrow night, (Saturday, April 13th…6 – 9) at Shiela Mullin’s Fleming Street Gallery. I’m sharing the show with artist Lenny Addorisio….his exhibit of his paintings is titled Small Works, mine is From My Archives….and here are 6 of the pictures that will be in my part of the show.
I shot the earliest one, LINDA, in 1951, while still in high school. (Yes, I’m a geezer).
The next one is FALLEN ANGEL…I photographed Stephen Glasgow in the nurturing roots of the huge tree in front of the Federal building on Whitehead street….being on the constant lookout for curious tourists and the police. (Public nudity in Key West will earn you some time in a cell). I’m including it here to prove that I don’t shoot nudes of women exclusively.
CHRISTA…Probably the most controversial picture I’ve taken. When I published it in my ad in Dennis Cooper’s Key West the Newspaper, I got a lot of hate emails and phone calls..(oddly enough, no hate mail…but stamps are really expensive!).
THE KISS
I started a project of women kissing themselves in the full length mirror in my bedroom…I got up to #6, and then moved to where I am now….and the mirror wasn’t mine. Pity. This was the first one…I find it a combination of romantic and exotic. But that’s me…
NAOMI
Be still my heart! Naomi is such a knockout! Here she’s posing in my illustration of what might have been in a 1939 issue of Esquire magazine. It was from my 2005 exhibit A CENTURY OF WOMEN… depicting changes in fashion, photography, makeup, etc, from 1905 to 2005. Check it out….
And finally, my much missed friend, Billie Kaye, who moved west. Here she’s promoting
Raid Toothpaste… guaranteed to kill those nasty germs in your mouth….
And that’s it for now…here’s a reminder about the show….if you can’t see it on opening night,
it will be up for 3 weeks…
