Equality Florida, the largest organization in Florida dedicated to securing full equality for the state’s LGBT community, will introduce the Key West business community to Another Business for Equality (www.AB4E.org) at a luncheon on Wednesday, November 19 at Aqua, 711 Duval Street.

Another Business for Equality spotlights businesses that have taken a stand for policies of LGBT inclusion.  Not only does the project demonstrate the strong and rapidly growing support for LGBT equality among business leaders, it also allows Floridians to connect with those pro-equality companies via a free, searchable online directory that is open to the public, reaching more than 200,000 supporters of Equality Florida.

Michael Reedy, AB4E Statewide Organizer, will provide details to attendees at the luncheon. “Although Key West is the southernmost point in the U.S. it is the guiding light, the North Star, of inclusive communities,” said Reedy.  “Residents, tourists and those who will flock to Key West when marriage equality comes to Florida will all view the AB4E directory as a valuable resource.”

The link between strong anti-discrimination laws and the ability to draw the best and the brightest is the reason that for the first time in history more than 60 percent of the Fortune 500 have adopted comprehensive anti-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation and gender identity for their employees.

Inclusion in the directory not only puts the spotlight on businesses that respect diversity, but also allows consumers to choose where they spend their money.  Research has shown that the LGBT community and their allies are loyal to those who support equality and often seek to do business with brands that implement policies of inclusion.

“Now more than ever, consumers are paying attention to corporate social responsibility and want to know that the businesses they support respect equality, fairness and equal opportunity for their employees and customers,” added Reedy.  “Honoring those companies that set the standard with comprehensive policies is the best way to encourage others to promote inclusivity and to show that equality means business.”

To be listed, businesses must have LGBT inclusive non-discrimination policies and support the passage of local, state and national protections.

A $ 50 administrative fee covers the cost of the program and provides business with an extensive roster of benefits, including door-to-door map features, smart phone friendly mobile directory, social media support and much more.

The AB4E luncheon is free for business owners and managers, and takes place on Wednesday, November 19 from noon ‘til 1:30 pm at Aqua Nightclub, 711 Duval Street, Key West.   Reservations are required.  To register, go to www.eqfl.org/ab4e/keywest , or contact  Evie Evers Kling, Key West Development Associate, at [email protected].
